Making page layout OPTIONAL when importing charts/objects

The automatic boilerplate layouts in PowerPoint 2003 are counterproductive
and very frustrating for me. If I try to paste an object such as a table into
an existing page, that page will revert to a Microsoft standard layout that
destroys all the careful formatting I've done, forcing me to spend time
undoing the damage. I can't figure out how to turn this unwanted "help" off!

1. Select Tools | AutoCorrect Options...
2. Select the 'AutoFormat As You Type" tab
3. Untick 'Automatic layout for inserted objects'.
4. Click on OK.

Try Edit, Paste Special instead of Edit,Paste. You'll have a variety of
options.
