Marked as unread status won't go away

On numerous occasions, I have clicked on an email only to find out that it is of no interest to me. I then delete it. The email goes to the deleted bin, but still shows up as unread, ie in bold. It's kind of annoying. I'm OCD and this drives me to have to click on the email again in the deleted bin so that the unread status will disappear. What gives?

Moving a message does not change it's status. Try nuking the message. It
will be gone forever.

If you click on a message and view it in the Preview Pane without actually
opening the message, it may not be marked as read. It is controlled by Mail
& News Preferences in Entourage, under the "Read" subject. See if the
checkbox to mark as read is checked, and, if it is, check the number of
seconds that must elapse before it gets marked as read. If it is check and
the number of seconds is very small, you can accidentally mark things as
read just in clicking through a list of messages. Set it large enough so
that you have time to focus and read the message before it gets
automatically marked as read. Or else, if you prefer (as I do) to do all
such marking manually, leave the checkbox empty and use Cmd-T to mark a
message as read before you delete it. Cmd-T Cmd-Del gets to be a habit.

I have been having a similar problem -- only its more global.

I click to delete Junk Mail and the Mail remains in view as if undeleted. However, if I switch to another folder and then return, the email is gone.

However, the Unread Messages indicator for the folder may still list messages and the folder will still be in bold.

Conversely, I have some email that gets shunted into folders upon arrival, yet the folder does not turn bold to indicate the new arrival. When I actually go to the folder, the email message itself is in bold however.

Basically, the indicators for unread messages are all screwed up.

If I quit Entourage and relaunch, everything fixes itself. But then the problems begin again with new email.

I never had this problem with 2004 or even with 2008 for the first few weeks. But now I have it all the time.

Any suggestions?

I have the problem of not being able to delete messages on occasion.
When I click on them, I just get the spinning icon and this make force
quitting necessary.
