Marking emails without opening them

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Email Client: pop

I'm working with "entourage". My problem is how to mark new emails without opening them (f.ex. if I want to transfer them directly to the wastebasket). If I do a single click the email opens already. How can I change that? It should be possible to mark it with one click and to open it with a double click.

Turn off the Preview Pane (under the View menu), and then select the message
and delete it or move it.

You might want to Nuke them. The script "nuke messages" is one I use all the
time. Links to download can be found here along with directions on how to
set a shortcut to the script.
