markups in wordxp - can they be displayed in the same way as word 97?

I have recently upgraded to word xp (having used previous versions of
word). The way word 97, and before, show mark ups is much better,
IMHO, than word xp (the way mark ups are shown in XP gives me a
headache and is not clear). I would like my markups to be underlined
(where I have made additions) and struck through (when deleted) - as
word 97 and before did. I do not want additions to be shown in a
different italic font with a side note setting out additions and
deletions - which xp does. Is there anyway to configure word xp so, at
least with mark ups, it behaves like the old word did.
many thanks.

Go to the Tools menu, select Options and then the Track Changes tab. Remove the tick next to Balloons. Your changes will now be shown as they used to be. This also changes the way comments are displayed. Instead of being shown in balloons, they are shown in a viewing pane at the bottom of the page, so you can see them and the text to which they relate at the same time.
