Master and Subdocuments

Is is possible to create a Master Document so that when changes are made to the master, these changes will flow through to all of the Subdocuments? It seems to me that it should be a template/formatting issue. Is this so

No. Sub-documents are independent documents.

Word will handle huge documents as a single file.
