master reapplied -- and yet not

B

bethany_66

The master for my .pot file properly shows first level bulleted font size to
be 24, second level to be 20, and tertiary bullets to be 18. I have
"reapplied layout" multiple times to many of my slides. It has never applied
these font sizes; it has occasionally found the new bullets and colors, but I
can't figure out why it won't apply the sizes which appear in my master. Or
why it doesn't consistently apply colors and bullets.

Echo S

Which slide layout are you reapplying?

Do you need to apply a different slide master (design template) to the slide
in question? Look on the Slide Design taskpane to see "used in this
presentation." Do you have more than one there?

B

bethany_66

I am applying a variety of layouts, depending on the slide. Some are text
box on left and picture box on right; some are the reverse, etc.

I have only one Master Slide showing when I View/Master/Slide Master. That
is where the proper font color/size/bullets are appearing.

As to design template which you also asked about, under Format/Slide
Design/Design Template, it shows only one, "used by all slides." Also shows
the proper font size/color/bullets.

Some of the slides probably had changes made manually to font size, etc.,
but I have tried to un-do that by reapplying the master, with no success.

Usually reapplying the slide layout twice will remove the manual formatting.

If you are using (almost) any layout other than the one with a title and one
bulleted list placeholder, then the text size is probably 2 pts smaller than
what you expect. This is how PPT works -- the font sizes are smaller on those
slides that use two bulleted placeholders or 1 bulleted placeholder + 1 other
content placeholder.

So you'll need to either adjust your existing master or create another with
fonts a little larger than what you ultimately expect to see on your site.

Thanks for the advice. I did try reapplying the layout multiple times. I
have now also tried using a larger font size on my master. Neither worked,
unfortunately.

Wow, I'm stumped, then.

Oh, wait. Maybe the text isn't in a placeholder? What happens if you delete
one of the textboxes -- do you see an empty placeholder that says "click to
add text" in its place?

Yes, I did a CTRL+S to save both before and after reapplying.

I guess I don't understand what you mean. This was already a template, and
when I reapplied and did CTRL+S, it still showed as a .pot file in the same
location. It has all my other changes, but just won't re-size my text.

Michael Koerner said:
Actually Ctrl+S does not do it, you have to physically save your file as a template file (.pot), Then update your presentation with your new template file.

This is weird. You mentioned above if you delete one of the textboxes, you
see "click to add text" in its place. That means the text was in a
placeholder. But nothing shows up in the outline view? Placeholder text
should show up in the outline view.

Hmmm...
