Match timescale with duration

M

Michael Vestel

How do I make the timescale match the duration. When I have a task that is
entered to last one month, the timescale shows just less. When I have a set
of tasks that add up to 1 year, it ends up about a month short of 12 months...

thansk.

Hi Michael,

Sounds like the settings in the calendar. Check to see what options have
been set for the number of days in the week, and days in the month. If you
have a project that retains 5 days per week and 20 days per month on a seven
day calendar then a one month task will show as 20 days long not the expected
30 days.

Hope this helps

The units of month and year are defined in tools, options, calendar.
They are defined as a fixed number od working days and do not necessarily
match with calendar mo or yr.

Hi Michael,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

To add to David's comment, the 20 days per month is 20 WORKING days. You

If I want the durations to be normal (like a 40 hour week) for calculations
of hours, then how can I ensure I'm inputting calendar months into the
schedle.

When I’m scheduling resources, I prefer to use Fixed Duration so that I can
say how long a task is and then assign the percent effort for the various
resources. I also Click Effort driven dialog box.

but I want the "length" ie, the Duration to be a calendar month and if I
have someone working 25% during a one month effort, I want the working hours
to be 25% of 160 hours= 40hr
Duration to be 1 calendar month..

how can I do this?

Hi Michael,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You can't:( Calendar months vary in length and as Project is mathematically
precise, it can't be done. You'll have to settle for weeks. You can define
a month as being something other that the default 20 working days, but I
don't think that'll meet your requirements.
