Math Equations not appearing - insted Error! Not a valid embedded

I have a document created with Word XP that contains equations. When I
upgraded to Office 2003 I opened it and the equations are not appearing.
Insted the message "Error! Not a valid embedded object." is there.
I updated the office 2003 software after installing it.
Anyone had a similar problem?
