Maximum Size of PST Files

Lloyd Lindsay

Hi:

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.

For Outlook 2000, what is the maximum workable size of the Outlook.PST
file? Some people say 1.8GB, others say 2GB.

Outlook also uses an Archive.PST file. If the maximum is 1.8GB, would
a 900 MB Outlook.PST and a 900 MB Archive.PST be OK?

Also, if I rename my Archive.PST file to Archiveold.PST, will Outlook
2000 create a new Archive.PST file?

2GB is the maximum size. If you are still stuck at 1.82GB read the following
article and update your Outlook 2002 to SP2 level
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=305108

Yes, the maximum size is per pst not the combined size of several pst's

Yes, renaming will do. Make sure Outlook is closed when you rename the file

Hope this helps!

Max size, given by MS is 2gb, though you can experience problems when
greater than 1.7gb (some report 1.5gb)
The size relates to an individual pst file not a combination of pst files in
current use.
To create a new pst, File/New/Personal Folder, name it as you wish eg
Archive03. If an archive, in your folder/properties/archive browse to
location of pst you wish to use.
