There is an apparent bug in Entourage 2004's import of mbox files: if a
paragraph within a message starts with the word "From", this is taken to
be the start of a new message. So that paragraph is lost and the message
is split at that point. m.
That's actually a bug in the app that exported the mboxes, not Entourage.
"From" is the standard way of denoting demarcations between messages
(usually followed by other stuff : ??? Date anything ??? But it's the "From"
not in a header that does the demarcation. Peculiar RFC, yes?)
To avoid the confusion Entourage itself insets a "> " before any paragraph
(at top of message or after a blank line) beginning "From". I'll demonstrate
that in a moment:
From me to you - see? I typed "From" at the beginning of the line.
To avoid the "> " and ensuing blue reply-type line, insert spaces (or you
can type a tab if you wish):
From me to you - with space.
In neither of these cases will any email client importing mboxes get it
wrong. The exporting app did not take this precaution. Since Entourage just
follows the RFC, you end up with the split messages.
