merge documents

Russ, have you tried typing in your major main document
something like:

{INCLUDETEXT "C:\\mydocs\\filename1.doc"}
{INCLUDETEXT "C:\\mydocs\\filename2.doc"}
{INCLUDETEXT "C:\\mydocs\\filename3.doc"}

Peggy,
Thank you for your reply, but when i try this, i get the error that the
mergfield in the file that I am inserting is not a mailmerge field. this is
occuring becaseu the main document does not have field X that is in the
subdocument. how do i get around this? Can i direct a mailmerge to several
tables or queries in an access database? thank you

It might be a good idea if you gave a detailed explanation of what you are
trying to do. A mailmerge main document can only be merged with a single
"flat" data file. Anything else is going to require the use of something
other than a simple mailmerge.
