Message Categories disappear after rebuild in Entourage 2004

Ran rebuild on Entourage database. When reopened, all messages in every
folders have categories reset to NONE. Now, all incoming messages
arrive in Inbox with category set to NONE. No rules in place, junk mail
protection set to Low.

What happened? Is this a bug/feature?! Can this be fixed?

It's the expected mechanism unfortunately when you have an Excahnge
account. Categories are not synched to the server and rebuilding trashes
all the local cache, redownloading all from the server (and therefore
loosing all categories).
