Message Delete Sync with Blackberry

T

Tom Doligalski

I recently got a Blackberry. When a message (stored on an exchange server)
is deleted using Outlook for Windows, Outlook 2001 for Mac, or OWA, the
Blackberry Server ultimately removes it from the Blackberry. However, when I
delete the message using Entourage the message never gets deleted from the
Blackberry.

Anyone with some idea about why?

Are you totally sure about your first statement?

I was told that deleting on your PC does NOT remove anything from the
Blackberry.

It is basically a FIFO (First In First Out) device and all emails eventually
disappear.

Yes, I am quite certain. So, for example, I can delete a mail message in
Outlook 2001, and after a short period the message will be deleted from the
Blackberry (and, for that matter, also from Entourage if it is open).
However, if I delete a message from Entourage, it will disappear from
Outlook 2001, but will not be deleted from the Blackberry (except, as you
say, unless the Blackberry's memory gets full, at which time it will start
deleting older messages).

Interesting.

It certainly does not work that way for any of our Blackberry's on our
corporate server????

I have the same problem.
I use apple mail instead. It can be configured to work with an
exchange server.
So I only use entourage for calendar. Although I now know of GroupCal
which purportedly allows one to use iCal directly with the exchange
server. So one can get rid of entourage entirely.
Too bad entourage sucks so bad.
I tried going through microsoft customer support on this issue and got
nowhere.

I spent a great deal of time with RIM support on this matter. it
appears that Entourage deletes the Ref ID and the Folder ID info from
the email when it moves the email to the deleted items folder. The
Blackberry Enterprise Server 4.0 needs that info to track an email.

I also have spoken with microsoft about this. They don't have an answer
yet. they said they would look into it and call back in a few days.
Hopefully i will have an answer.

Tom,

Thanks for your leg work on this. I have been working with my Exchange
Hosting provider to figure out why this was. We never got to the level
of detail that you reached. Please let us know when you hear from
Microsoft.

Thanks,

Hey there,

I was wondering if you had an update on this from either Microsoft or RIM.
Any way to stop Ent 2004 from deleting those IDs?

Thanks!

Ditto!!!! If anyone could find out if this is even in the minds of MS
developers, that would be great. I hate to say it, but his one issue
makes it so I don't use Entourage even though I like it better.
