Is there any way a message received in HTML can remain in HTML when edited? The minute you select Message > Edit Message, everything changes to plain text, email trails turn into a mess, and all inserted images disappear. This is most inconvenient... Is there a preference to make received email remain in the format in which it arrived when editing? (My workaround is to hit Reply and edit it there, but that's just an extra unnecessary step...)

Sorry, no. Editing an incoming HTML message will always strip out the
HTML first thing. This is because other email clients use forms of
formatting that Entourage cannot yet handle when editing, although it
can display them.

Your best option is to make your voice heard directly to Microsoft by
using the Help --> Send Feedback tool in any Office application.
