message receipts

does anyone know how to set a request for a 'message read receipt' for
messages that are sent?

Outlook does this...I can't find it here on Entourage

You can request a return receipt by adding in the appropriate header. See
this Entourage FAQ article for complete instructions:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/return_receipt.html>

However, be aware that many clients (including Entourage) ignore the header,
and other clients choose not to obey it. So you shouldn't expect to receive
a notification in all instances.

If you want Entourage to recognize these requests in incoming messages, go
to Tools > Rules, and create a new rule like this:
* Execute actions if any criteria are met
IF Specific Header Disposition-Notification-To Contains @
IF Specific Header Return-Receipt-To Contains @
THEN Reply

You can click the "Reply text" button and customize the notification text.
I only have such a rule set up to change the category of messages that
request receipts so that I have the option to send replies or not. You
might want to consider that option for your own privacy.

Uh-huh, what Mickey said. I have a separate account set up called "RECEIPT,"
so I can choose on the fly whether to request a read receipt or not.

While we're at it, what's the extra header needed to request a delivery
receipt from the receiving server? Outlook on the PC has a checkbox for
this, but, obviously, Entourage does not.

Thanks,

Adam, I just noticed that this is for "Read" receipts, which I already have
set up. Is there a separate header for "Delivered" receipts?

There was a thread several month ago about return receipts why Entorage
you couldn't send receipts or read them.

I as given the answer that MS chose not to support return receipts.

at that time I thought it was odd since every other major email Client
Eudora, Mozilla, Thundebird and even Safari can support sending and
receiving return receipts.

I have a few people I send to and wish to make sure that they receive
and read a post. A fellow sends items to me with return receipts
requested and I acknowledge them and send back the receipt.

A fellow came up witha script (which I hate using because it addes
insequirty to an already unsecure program) which I installe that allow
be to send return receipts through entourage. I still find it a bizarre
that a major company would ignore a major standard as return receipts.

I've read from some people that if they receive an email with return
receipt request attched they would be willing to send hate mail. I find
that bizzare as well.

The intended purpose of return receipt request is to ask the receiver
basically : "hey this is important enough I think you should read it.
Please let me know you at least openned it up". Without actually syaing
as much.
