Help! For some strange reason, my mail messages are starting to appear
on my Mac's inbox and not on the exchange server--this is a real pain
because my blackberry gets all the messages that it should but I wind
up having to delete messages, or move them to the exchange server from
my inbox to have access when I'm at home. I had this problem about a
week ago and solved it by creating a new Entourage identity--this was
a great fix, but of course I had to reconfigure all my custom
categories, and set Entourage up all over again. I am dreading having
to do it again. Any ideas? I am running 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro and
Entourage Version 11.3.3 (061214) I am starting to wonder if I should
ditch Entourage in place of using Outlook through Parallels (ick!)
Please help. Thanks!

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the local Inbox as the target
folder. You can select to use the Mailing List Manager (MLM) rule or your
custom rule. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other rules.

You must have a rule that is moving the message.

I checked this setting and I did have one mailing list manager rule,
but it was only active for a single sender. I do not have any other
rules active. Could that one rule be the culprit?

FWIW--I removed that single rule and it seems to have solved the
problem. I've also turned off junk mail filtering. Quirky how one
MLM rule was redirecting everything to my inbox... thanks Diane!

The Mailing list Manager is not intended to handle normal mail - that is
usually handled by 'Rules'.

The Mailing List Manager is designed for working with (as its name implies)
mailing lists. These are special addresses where a person can send one
message to the mailing list, and it is copied out to all subscribers to the
list - which can be hundreds of thousands of people!

The MLM entries work primarily by looking at who the message was addressed
TO, not who it came FROM. In most lists, the address is redirected to you
but retains its original TO address of the list address. Therefore, if you
create a MLM entry with a normal piece of mail selected, it will set the
'list address' as your address, and the MLM will then handle all the mail
sent TO you! Not what you want to happen at all!

I hope that MS tidy up this issue in the next iteration of office, this is
certainly the most common problem asked about on the newsgroup.
