Messages being removed from Exchange

I recently installed SP2 and upon running Entourage my messages were
moved from my Exchange server to the "Folders on My Computer" InBox.
Checking my account using Outlook 2003, my mailbox was completely
empty! I'm not quite sure what happened here. Any info would be greatly
appreciated...Mark

I had this problem appear when I first migrated to Entourage 2004 from
Entourage v.X. In my case, Entourage was downloading and removing only
certain files from outside my organization's domain. I was able to
solve the problem by trashing all Entourage prefs files and the entire
Main Identity folder.

The problem resurfaced shortly after I installed SP2, except that now,
messages were being moved from various custom folders on the Exchange
server to the Exchange server Inbox. I remembered that I had recently
had some e-mail flagged as junk and had created a Mail Manager rule to
keep all mail from that particular sender's domain in my Exchange
Inbox. Now, several days later, Entourage was busily moving into the
Inbox all sorts of messages from completely unrelated domains that I
had filed in other Exchange server folders. I also use the Mac Outlook
2001 client (running in Classic), and it was hilarious to drag messages
from the Inbox in Outlook, only to have them pop up again seconds later
in the Inbox. In the process, some messages were being duplicated.

Quitting Entourage stopped the comedy, and when I relaunched it, I
quickly deleted the Mail Manager rule. For extra insurance, I also
turned off junk e-mail protection. I haven't had the problem resurface
yet, but it's only been about a week.

I'm not convinced that this is a permanent fix, because I don't think I
had any Mail Manager rules in effect when the problem first appeared in
Entourage 11.1.

I would be curious as to how many other users may be seeing a similar
problem. No one else at my organization seems to have a clue.

I'm not quite sure to make of what's going on in your case. Yours seems
to be rather random which will make troubleshooting "interesting" to
say the least.

In my case, I had no rules set in Entourage at all. Even messages from
subfolders in Exchange were being moved to the Folders On My Computer
Inbox. It's a total mess. I have tried, with some sucess, taking my Mac
of the network (so I could run Entourage without further problems) and
moving the messages from the Folders On My Computer Inbox to their
appropriate folders in my Exchange account and then reconnecting to the
network. Entourage then began synching the folders and my messages
began appearing on the Exchange server. Unfortunately, I had almost
5500 messages and I had to leave for the evening and take my PowerBook
with me so I had to stop the sync. I tried to restart the sync the next
day and the messages were again being moved to the Folders On My
Computer Inbox...

If I discover a fix for this I will post it here. In the mean time, if
anyone has already come up with a fix, please let me know...

I am having the exact same problem, but after the messages were moved
from Exchange to the "folders on my computer inbox", they were deleted
from there also.

I have a user with the exact same issue here. Connected to an Exchange
server, and after the SP2 update, his mail is being popped over to folders
on my computer.
Here is what I have done up to now to try and troubleshoot this (none
worked):

Cleared cache and re-downloaded folder list
Repaired the database
Trashed pref files (all office pref files to make sure, including any ms
office ones for that user)
Created a new identity and a new account
Short of Uninstalling Office Completely and then re-installing it, I'm not
sure what to try next

It appears that MS is working on a "patch" for SP2 for this reason.
According to them, the patch should be available before Nov 1...
