Messages dissapearing in Entourage

G

In using Entourage for email, I notice that messages periodically and randomly disappear from my inbox view.

The messages are stored on a linux IMAP server, and if I view my inbox using either Thunderbird or Squirrel, I see the messages.

They are not visible from within Entourage. There are no applicable filters set that might hide the messages.

What is going on here?

You may have Entourage's View --> Unread Only feature enabled.

Or you may need to delete your IMAP account and recreate it in
Entourage. Pay attention to the Options tab of the Account Settings
window. Some features there can enhance or disrupt performance with IMAP
servers.

Hope this helps!

William,

Thanx for the response.

Hmmm ... Let me think about that for a .... Microsecond.

No. :)

Well, this is Entourage 2008. I've had it for about two weeks, so the
account has only been newly created.

However, I have now deleted the account and recreated it. In loking at the
options tab, I really didn;t see anything there that seems as if it would
cause these problems.

In reconnecting to the account, it did report an error in that the default
sent messages folder were not what is provided on my IMAP server, and in
then looking at the settings, it had automagically selected the correct
folder (which is good, but why tell me that there was an error? That should
surely be a warning message).

But recreating the account was a fun process too: in deleting the account
from the accounts window, I then immediately went to add. Instead of the
dialog that asks whether the account is an IMAP or POP account, Entourage
just presumed I wanted POP (I didn't) and gave me the wizard for creating a
new POP account.

And yes, it did that both times I tried it!

Closing Entourage and restarting it fixed that issue, but clearly there
seems to be some serious bugs within the app.

And within an hour of recreating the account, the problem has reappeared.

Any other suggestions?

I have also seen messages disappear, and have gone to just using our
web browser client for Exchange and not Entourage. I have sat at my
desk, had the notification that I have a new email, (pops up in the
bottom right corner), then gone to my inbox, and no mail. That is why
I have been recommending to my users not to use Entourage.

I have been recommending to my users not to use Entourage.

Seems like an appropriate course of action. It's totally useless to have a
mail reader that fails to show you your mail.

I continue to have this problem as well. Oddly, it happens from Thursday afternoon until Sunday....and then works fine until the following Thursday.

It is also odd that when there is a real bug identified, Microsoft has no comment or suggestion. Yup, it's Friday, and all my other mail clients see the new new mail, but all the mac/entourage clients can't. Lovely!

Luckily we have web and Apple Mail access to our email accounts. But in the meantime, isn't this s a serious bug in 2008 verus 2004 upgrade?

I also have an exchange account that worked fine in the last version of Entourage, but has randomly been making emails disappear since I upgraded to Office 2008. I have a Deleted Items folder that contains most of my deleted emails, but every once in a while I try to go back to look at one and it's nowhere to be found (yes I have the "View Unread Only" option unchecked). Today is the third time I've noticed this but for all I know it could be happening more often and I don't notice because usually I don't go back to read deleted messages.
