Messages Showing as Read, but Shouldn't Be

I'm running Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2000. A user
returning from a vacation reports that within the stack of
unread messages in her inbox, two messages have been
opened. Apart from someone reading her mail, what might
cause this?

Well reading... at least connected to the mailbox.

Other then that; you can set mail rules that mark messages as read but
that's about it.
