messages won't show up in color categories

I'm using Entourage 2004 on a Mac on OS 10.3+ I cannot get messages
that come into Entourage to show up in the category color I have
assigned them even though:

1) they are in my address book under the correct category

2) In preferences I have checked "automtically match message categories
to senders' categories".

3) I have even made a "rule" that any message coming from
"@variouscomanies.com" be assigned to that category.

NOTHING WORKS! I talked to one of the Entourage specialists at the
MacWorld conference who told me about creating the rule, he said if it
didn't work i could email him but of course he never answered my email.

Most likely explanation is that you have another rule that is setting the
category to 'none'. By default a new rule with have this as the second
action, and it is too easy to leave it in there by mistake.

Go through each of your rules making sure that this is not the case.
