Messaging Interface Unknown Error

I work at a law firm and we have some documents that were received for our
review. One of the CD's has folders with .msg files in it. I can't open
any of them (even if I copy them off the cd and remove the read only
attribute) as I get the "Messaging Interface has returned an unknown error"

Without having the messages sent as a pst, is there any other way to open
the messages, I've tried Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express to no avail.
