Microsoft Entourage and Exchange calendar /contact synchingproblems

David Zanussi

There is a bug or some type of problem in getting data from the entourage
database to synch with the exchange server for calendar events and contacts.
1. All email msgs. Synch perfectly between the the entourage client and the
exchange server (OWA for short) since email goes to the folder in the
exchange account
2. Calendar events are very weird and inconsistent.
3. If you create an event in OWA and then synch the calendar the event
disappears from OWA and goes into the entourage database. The same happens
to all my contacts except the owa contacts are removed from t he server and
go into the contact sub folder as 1k msgs with only the name in the subject
line, worthless bts of information.
4. When creating an event in entourage the only way to get the event in
synch with OWA is to send the event to yourself and move the email event to
the calendar sub folder. This can be done also by moving the created event
from the sent folder to the same calendar folder. Then both owa and
entourage is in synch.
5. Entourage contacts do not synch from the database in Office identities t
all. Even after importing contacts to exchange serve with Outlook in OS9 as
soon as I log in with entourage 10.1.4 the contacts disappear from OWA and
are moved to the contacts folder in the exchange account

It seems as though if all the events both recvd and created would work
perfectly if the event would just go to the Calendar folder in the OWA
account rather than the entourage database because that does NOT work .

So despite the HELP content claiming that entourage calendar events and
contacts are synched with the exchange server they DO NOT work properly.
ONLY the email synchs correctly.
Can someone from Microsoft confirm that so we quite wasting our time trying
to get their software to work properly or please provide an solution?

We are using the panther and updated MS OFFICE 10.1.5

Woops, I don;t know if I have the solution but from what I read, I would
say that it looks like the free/busy server is not setup properly and
the files go to IMAP folders.
To summarize the problem:

- Mail gets sent through IMAP on the Exchange server.

- Calendar and address book are synchronized through the OWA (or
Webmail) server through WebDAV (httpDAV). This server is not always the
same as your Exchange server. If you don't enter the address properly,
the data ends up at the wrong location.

Basically the address you need for the free/busy server looks like that:

if your OWA server is "http://www.myserver.com/exchange/", then your
free/busy server should be "www.myserver.com/public" (and don't forget
the /public, it's bad karma ;-)) ). If the server has a non classic
syntax, then it might be an issue...

In the Entourage setup, you might want to add whatever oddity your
server needs (special port, SSL (OWA server accessed through https)...
