Compatible?

Can I install Microsoft Office 2000 Premier on an XP Pro
machine? Are there any known issues with this proceedure?

Most certainly you can, and then go to the web and fetch
all the updates, including sr1 and sr2 and security
updates.

If you are talking about Windows XP Pro, Absolutely! As mentioned before,
be sure to download all the patches. If you are talking about Office XP
Pro, you will need to uninstall Office XP Pro first then install Office
2000 followed by reinstalling Office XP.
