Microsoft Sync Services seems to be a hog

Since installing Office 2008 I have noticed my disk works constantly. I thought this was perhaps Time Machine. But it isn't. The busiest application by far is Microsoft Sync Services which runs between 15 and 30 pc of CPU and an amazing amount of memory - RSIZE 1.18 GB and VSIZE 2.26 GB - constantly. Why? I am just one person with Entourage fetching mail from an IMAP account. All it is syncing with is Address Book and iCal - which now never change because I do all that work through Entourage - or I have been doing.
By comparison Safari has an RSIZE of 64 mb and VSIZE of 1,002 mb. and takes around 4 pc CPU. Even Entourage itself is 71 mb, 1.17 gb and 2 pc using the same stats. Nothing comes anywhere close to the resources sync is using.

Since installing Office 2008 I have noticed my disk works constantly.

Launch Console fromthe /Applications/Utilities folder and look in the
logs to see if there is something fishy with syncing. I've seen that
once and it helped me figure out one of my events was corrupted.
Trashing it (the event) solved the issue for me.
