Migrating Outlook files

Larry Stone

Two problems seem to be happening after moving my Outlook
files to a new computer. I've moved the Outlook.pst file,
as well as Outcmd.dat, and files such as .nk2, .fav, etc
from the Outlook directory. (Outlook 2002, Windows 2000).
1- All my contacts show up fine, but if I click on address
book, it doesn't find any. I searched my (old) computer
for any .pab files, but none seem to exist. How can I
either move my address book, or get Outlook to recognize
my contacts as my address book?
2- I'm still trying to find a way to move my email
accounts to the new computer. I have over a dozen
accounts, and really want to avoid having to manually re-
create each one. This information must exist in some file
or someplace in the registry. Any ideas how to locate and
copy it?

For the address book problem, ensure that you have the Outlook Address Book
service installed.

For the accounts problem, sorry, you are out of luck. The File and Settings
Transfer wizard may work but my experience has been less than satisfactory.

1- Do I need to install the Outlook Address book service
on the machine I want to move from, or the one I want to
move to? How do I install it?
2- I would like to try the File and Settings Transfer
Wizard, but don't know how to find it. Where is it
located, and how can I bring it up? Thanks.

InOutlook, the address book service can be added from Tools->Email
Accounts->Directories.

I have not used Windows 2000 in a long time - sorry, you are on your own.
Try asking the Help file for where it is, if it is even available on Windows
2000.
