Missing emails in inbox outlook 2000

David Mew

Hi all,

I have a user who's had over 100 emails in their inbox.
When they came in this morning, there were 4. I cannot
find any trace of the emails in any folders, inc. deleted
items. I cannot find any trace of them when logging into
webmail.

Does anyone know what is causing this? I have never seen
this before and we have over 400 users.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Dave.

Do they have a view applied to their Inbox, such as "Unread Messages"
or perhaps a filter? Do they have AutoArchive configured to archive messages?
Any new .PST files suddenly appear on their machine? Do they log into
Outlook from other machines?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply. The view is on messages, so thats
not the problem, they don't have autoarchive enabled,
no .PST files have been created. They do log onto their
emails using exchange webmail. They also do an active
sync with an O2 XDA2 mobile phone/palm PC. I have ruled
out the XDA2 as the emails were not downloaded onto the
machine.

Any ideas?

An update on the isssue, one of my fellow workers received
a message to synchronise his outlook when he closed it.
He had never set up an auto sync, yet we found the
settings in his outlook. He cancelled the sync, then on
restart of outlook, found that some of the mail in his
inbox had been deleted. I don't know where they were
trying to sync to!

I think this may have happened to the other user I was
talking about. Any ideas?
