Missing folder on import from OE

T

Tom Kirshbaum

I just cranked up Entourage X 10.1.4 on OS X 10.2.6 and imported all my
stuff from Outlook Express 5.06. Everything went fine. All the accounts and
messages are there, except my main folder in OE, called Saved Messages. It
contains tens of thousands of messages. When I ask Entourage to create a
folder with this name, it tells me that the folder already exists, and the
database is huge -- 90 MB -- so it appears that the messages have indeed
been imported. I just can't see the folder.

I have repaired permissions and done both regular and advanced rebuilds of
the database, with no change.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks for any help.

Its probably in a folder named "Imported OE Mail" or something like that. I
just can't remember how Entourage names the imported folders.

All thirteen folders in Entourage are correctly named, and contain the
messages they contained in OE. There is no other folder. If I cannot create
a "saved messages" folder because it already exists, and if the database is
so big it must contain those messages, where could they be?

I'm assuming you have checked under each subfolder.

First do an Advanced Find and select criteria:
Folder
IS
From Popup select Choose Folder (do you see your folder there?)

If you can see the folder, in the window but not in the folder window, then
I suppose as a workaround you could try doing a custom view for the folder
and move the messages to a new folder.

There are none. I have checked the contents of each visible folder.
First do an Advanced Find and select criteria:
Folder
IS
From Popup select Choose Folder (do you see your folder there?)

I tried Item Types-Messages > Criteria-All Folders > Folder is > Choose
Folder ... That gives me the same folder list as clicking "On My Computer."

I also tried Item Types All Items > Title >Contains > Saved Messages ...

With no results.

Something has changed. Now Entourage will let me create a new "Saved
Messages" folder, though the size of the database indicates that all those
messages have been imported. Without them, there are only a few hundred
messages.

Could "Saved Messages" be a reserved expression in Entourage? Should I trash
the entire database, change the name of the folder in OE and import the
whole works again?

Should I remove and reinstall Entourage? I've done that once already, with
no change.

Backup your Identity then try the Rebuild again. Be sure to turn off
Notifications first.

If I remember correctly, you can drag messages to the desktop in OE. Don¹t
think you can do folders in OE like you can in Entourage.

Another option: Create a folder on your desktop and drag all your saved
messages into the folder. Switch over to Entourage and drag the individual
messages into a folder in Entourage. I would do it in segments.

Since the new Entourage database was already bloated by the folder that
doesn't show up, I didn't want to add the messages again.

Instead, I trashed the Entourage database, changed the name of "Saved
Messages" in OE to "History" and imported everything. This time it worked
fine! Perhaps it was the name "Saved Messages."

Thanks for the help.

I'm glad you got your problem fixed.
