Missing inbox and folders

G

Gwen Cryer

My computer was running slow and so I forced quit everything and restarted
my computer. When I opened Entourage my inbox and all my created folders
that I sorted my mail into were gone. I'm running on Mac OS 10.4.8 and my
Entourage Office 2004 11.0.0. The only folders that show up in my old
identity are the Drafts, Junk E-mail, and Public Folders. I could no longer
send or receive mail. I created a new identity and was finally able to send
and receive mail off of our exchange web server, but all my archived email
that was on my hard drive is gone. Where could it be? Also, I know I had one
draft that I had saved and it was no longer in my draft file. Everything
that I did have in folders was wiped clean. The only proof that this account
was my identity is my signature file it remained the same.

I would appreciate any feedback.

When you force quit, the system could have placed your Microsoft User Data
folder in an invisible folder named "lost+found". The folder is located at
the root level of the hard drive. To find this hidden folder called
"lost+found, do a search for "invisible files" and "Microsoft User Data". If
you are lucky, you'll find the missing files.

Note: Due to a bug in 10.4
(still not fixed in 10.4.8) the Finder cannot find invisible files.

Usually when mail disappears it's due to user error. If the Microsoft User
Data folder is moved from your Documents folder, Entourage will create a new
blank Identity. You can search your computer for "Microsoft User Data" and
move it back to the correct location.
