Mixed mode - can't use Windows auth?

P

Paul Atkinson

We've just set up Project Server 2002 on Windows Server 2003 and it works
fine as long as no one tries to use Windows authentication. Any attempt
just results in an invitation to enter your Project username and password.

- We are on a domain
- We are running Active Directory
- We have turned on Integrated Security in the ProjectServer web under IIS
- Same with MSADC
- We've run ProxyCFG and PSComPlus

Help?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I had this problem as well and although I have not had the time to
investigate the whole thing, here are the things that usually work (starting
with the simplest to the hardest):

Read this article and make sure you followed the appropriate steps and
installed the patch so PS can run on a Windows 2003 Server:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;319281

Still not working? Try changing the IE security settings:

1) Run IE on the client machine and go to Tools->Internet Options->Trusted
Sites->Sites... Make sure the Project Server is listed here. While still
in the Security tab, click Custom Level and change to the lowest level. See
if that fixes the problem (it did for me). You will probably want to do
some trial and error in slowly adding back the security settings so it is
not at the lowest possible level.

Still nothing? Maybe you need to adjust the MSADC folder:
1) Run the Internet Services Manager, expand the Project Server so you can
see the sub-folders.
2) Right-click the "MSADC" folder, choose "Properties" and go to the
"Directory Security" tab. Under "IP address and domain name restrictions",
click "Edit" and make sure "Granted Access" is selected".

Still nothing? Let's update the physical security settings for the MSADC
folder:
1) Find the MSADC folder on the Project Server. Right-click and set the
permissions for "Everyone" to "Read & Execute", "Read" and "List Folder
Contents".
2) Select all the files within the MSADC folder and change the security
settings to be the same as above.
3) NOTE: If this works, I would recommend you add the users to a group,
place that in the security settings and remove the Everyone group (I only
like using the Everyone group for testing, not for production).

Hope this helps,

-Bill
