Is there a way in Office XP, to create custom Task Panes programmatically?

There aren't any for XP but 3 ways for Office 2003 (Smart Documents,
Research Task Pane, and Information Bridge Framework) and one on the way
(VSTO 2005)
Might I suggest an upgrade?
