Monster PP presentation growing fast!

I am dealing with a user who is making a senior slide show wit
PowerPoint. Each year, the size of the show increases. I’m not sure ho
she is inserting the photos from her digital camera this year, but w
have gone from a 130 MB presentation last year, to a 685 M
presentation this year that can just barely be burnt to a CD. To top i
off, she says that she has only completed 1/3 of the project. At thi
rate, she is going to have a 2 GB PowerPoint file.

Our lab computers have 256 MB of RAM, so we are beyond the point wher
they can handle the 685 MB presentation (even with the maximum virtua
memory).

She claimed that the updated camera connection software is increasin
the size of the photos: we moved from Easyshare 3 to Easyshare 5. I
that even possible? If the photo on the camera is 250K can the camer
connection software, of all things, double or triple, or why no
quadruple, the size of the photo? I just can’t envision that.

Since we upgraded, the various versions of her presentation range fro
207 MB to the 685 MB stated above (versus 130 MB last year).

BTW, she is inserting JPEG images that range from 69 KB to 1477 KB.

Dimensions range from 652x441 to 2304 to 1728.

Could she just be “popping” these in without sizing them correctly?

Thank you in advance,

Ava

The biggest culprit is usually that Fast Saves is turned on in
PowerPoint. But if you are adding pictures, especially a few that are
over 1MB, that could kick your file size up substantially. The FAQ entry
linked above gives you many suggestions on what to do.

which might give you an easier way to get the pictures into PowerPoint at
a reasonable size.

Ok - first thing to check: Is Fast Saves turned on (Tools--> Options, save
tab,, first check box). If so, turn it off, open the presentation, and
re-save it under a different name. Then, read this entry in the PPT FAQ:

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00062.htm

In addition to having Fast Saves turned on, I am guessing her pictures are
being inserted at way too high of a resolution for PPT.

You could try running compress pictures too. Its in the picture toolbar.
Those picture sizes are way to high even if theyre full screen.
