I noticed that my address book, usually has 2000 or so contacts,
suddenly had 59.
I did a rebuild of the database, now it has 361.
Yikes!
Where did my other contacts go?
How can I get them back?
If you have backups of your database, then you can use it to export your
contacts to a tab delimited file to import into your current database.
However, it sounds like you have a corrupt database and need to salvage your
data. If you are using Entourage X do an Advanced Rebuild.
The rebuild might have made things worse so you can revert to the "Old"
copy. It's in the same folder and marked as "Old" or in Entourage 2004 it
creates a second folder named Main [Backed up 1-11-2007 11.11]. Switch
Identities to the backed up copy and see if you can export the contacts. If
you are using Entourage X, you will need to move the Old files to a new
folder and remove the word "old".
When Entourage rebuilds the database, it creates a backup. Regardless, you
should make a duplicate of your database before doing a rebuild for safety.
Do this now before doing an Advanced Rebuild.
How to Rebuild Your Database
Locate your database. It should be in your Documents folder
Make sure you have enough hard disk space available for twice the size of
your database. As part of the rebuilding process, Entourage creates a second
database file.
Quit any applications that are running, including virus-protection
applications, all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and
Office Notifications [IMPORTANT], because they might interfere with
rebuilding. How to quit Notifications
