Mouse Click Call Outs don't work after Packaging to CD

T

Created slides with manual mouse click call outs. After packaging up the
PowerPoint to CD, the call outs don't work (sometimes they work but it takes
a couple of minutes for them to appear).

Can you give me a few more details?

What is in these callouts? Just text boxes or large graphics? Large
graphics will take time to download from the CD (a much slower process than
from the hard drive).

What version did you package for CD from? Did it package to the old viewer?
You may want to see the tutorial about this from Echo.

The call outs just have text in them. I also packaged the presentation to CD
in PowerPoint 2003 version.

First, check that there is no delay set on the animation.

Unexpected delays in simple graphic animations usually indicate that the
computer is waiting on something either to load or complete. An easy test
would be to transfer the PPT or PPS file to the hard drive. If running the
same presentation file from the hard drive resolves the issue, than the
computer is being delayed while it is loading something from the CD.

Perhaps the computer is loading the next slide image (pre-load). If the
next slide is large, this data transfer from the CD to RAM, may take
priority over called functions, like animations. Try to insert a blank
slide between the slide where the delay happens and the next slide. This
will minimize the pre-load data If this resolves the issue, than it is a
pre-load issue.

If it still delays after you have transferred it to the hard drive and
placed a blank slide between slides, than look for other animations, sounds,
or transition sounds that may be waiting to complete.

I used insert autoshape for callouts and added the text into the callout. I
then added timing to the callout to appear when triggered by a mouse click.
I placed several callouts on one slide with the same triggers to appear when
mouse clicked.

Regarding the graphics issue, this is a tutorial presentation. The slide
contains a form that was scanned in as a jpeg and inserted into the slide.
The user clicks on a certain area on the form and a pop-up callout appears to
provide information about the form. Slides are all manual for the user to
proceed at their own pace.

The presentation works on other computers in my work area, but if I package
it to automatically start up, the callouts don't work.

How did you create the callouts? If you mean the text tips that show up when
you hover over a hyperlink, those don't work in the Viewers. (See

#16 for an explanation of text tips.)

What's the fill on the box part of the call out? If it is none, that would
explain your problem. Give it a color fill and set the transparency to 98%
and then try it in the viewer. That should work better.

The callouts are filled with 100% light blue with black text inside. If I
set it for 98% transparency, the background of the slide shows through and
you can't read the text in the callouts.

Oh, Kathy was suggesting that because 100% transparency can cause links not
to work on objects in the Viewer. It's exactly what I was about to suggest!

Actually, I'm wondering what kind of fill is on the object(s) you click to
trigger the appearance of the callouts. Are those maybe set to transparent
because they overlay various areas of the form image?
