Mouse wheel scrolling horizontally - how do I stop it?

When in a word document, for some unknown reason, my mouse wheel is scrolling horizontally across the page rather than vertically. This happens apparently for no reason and sporadically. The only way I have been able to stop it is by rebooting. The mouse settings in control panel do not assist

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to stop it

Hi Mark

I understand that this is a problem caused by the mouse driver. I
experience the same problem sometimes. It's VERY annoying! Sometimes
just closing and re-opening the problem program solves it. Other times,
I find I have to re-boot.

Try visiting the website of your mouse manufacturer to see if they have
a more recent driver for you.
