Moved item stays in inbox

I am running Entourage 2004 for Mac version 11.2.1
And MAC OSX 10.4.5

When I drag an email message from my inbox to a folder the message puts a
copy of the message in the folder and leaves the other copy in the inbox. I
then have to delete it from my inbox.

How can I have it so when I drag an email from the inbox to one of the other
folders that it removes it from my in box?

Sounds like you have an IMAP or Exchange account and you are creating the
folders to file the mail locally "On My Computer". Is your Inbox a subfolder
of an item in your folder list?

It is an exchange account... I am moving the email from my exchange inbox to
"Folders on My Computer". The folders on my local drive are at the same
level as my inbox, drafts, outbox, sent, etc on the local drive and are not
subfolders

Dragging from Exchange or IMAP to local copies it (sort of like dragging a
file from on disk to another). You then have to delete the original by
pressing Delete key or button.

Or you can click Move button and do it there. The first time (moving to a
folder you haven't done this with yet) you might have to click "Choose
folder" and choose. On subsequent occasions it will show up in the drop-down
list. Do need to Delete doing it this way.

I'm having the same problems as Glen, and it's really annoying.

I have had to move across to Entourage from the Mac Mail program, working on
an Exchange account, and when I moved a message in Mac Mail, it moved it
properly, without having to go back and delete the file.

Is there no way we can stop this?
