Movie clips in Powerpoint

Whenever I try to play an inserted movie clip, the box containing the clip
turns white and the clip doesn't play. The clip has been inserted from a
filepath on the hard drive, so the program should know where to find it.
What am I doing wrong?

If the path is too long, PowerPoint may not be able to play the video. Try
moving the clip to a location with a very short path, for example, C:\Test and
insert it again. Does that help?

I have a similar situation. It's an AVI file, and appears to be encoded with
Cinepak codec, which is included on the system, which is XP SP2. The path
should not be too long, as it's on the desktop, and I've tried reinserting
the video, but with the same results. If I insert the AVI video as an
Object, from File, it works, but has the control toolbar in it, and it
doesn't look as good. Any ideas on how to get the video not to just display
a white window?

Yes. Follow Sonia's suggestion to put the files in a folder on your C drive
proper.

You'd be amazed at how long the true path to the desktop is.
