movie plays in wmplayer but in powerpoint I get a blank screen

If I insert a movie file (avi) that plays properly in any player (wmplayer,
realplayer) in powerpoint and try to play it I get a blank white screen. This
is happening on a new Sony VAIO laptop only, I have no problem if I try on
another unit. Is there a setting in Microsoft Office or PowerPoint that I
should change?
