Moving e-mail from old to new computer

I have been stumped by the task of moving old e-mail and contacts from old
computer (Mac OS 9.2, Entourage 2001) to new computer Mac OSX, Entourage
2004). What is the most effective way to accomplish this?

you could connect them by ethernet and bring the file over from the old
to the new, or you could transfer it to an external hard drive, or you
could burn the data to a disk.
