Moving email from an old IMAP account to a current POP account

I have two e-mail accounts in Entourage for Mac OS X: a POP account
that is for my current company and an IMAP account from my old
company. How do I move an e-mail folder from the IMAP account on my
computer (not from the IMAP Exchange server) over to the POP account
set of folders on my computer? My problem is I no longer have access
to the old company's IMAP Exchange server. Consequently, when I try
to drag or copy an e-mail from the IMAP account over to the POP
account, my computer attempts to access the old IMAP exchange server
and gets an error message.

Once I succeed in moving the few folders I want to retain, I then want
to delete the old IMAP account entirely from my computer. Is there
any trick to doing this?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Best regards,

John McMahon

If the messages are downloaded, you shouldn't have any trouble moving them
into a local folder. If not, you can't access them without being connected
to the server as all you have is the header information (From, To, Date,
Subject).

You can tell whether a message has been downloaded by its icon. See
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/symbols.html>. The icons you're
looking for are at the very bottom of the list.

Thanks for the quick reply. The complete emails are all downloaded to
my computer, so I have no need (nor ability) to go back to the IMAP
server. However, if I even click on a folder in my IMAP account,
Entourage immediately tries to access the old IMAP server and gets
denied access. This is despite the fact that under Advanced Account
Settings, Synchronization Options, I clicked the radio button for
"Don't synchronize items to server."

What you suggest sounds logical to me, that I should be able to move a
downloaded message from an old IMAP folder into a local POP folder.
However, it's not working and I'm totally frustrated. Would
appreciate any additional help possible.

Best regards,

John

Yes, because Entourage is trying to refresh the list. But you should still
have access to the messages that have been downloaded.

To avoid the hanging as Entourage tries to refresh the list. simply select
Entourage menu/Work Offline. You may get a dialog about Entourage recording
your actions to sync with the server later - never mind that. You will be
able to access the IMAP messages via the local cache. Make copies in local
folders as Adam says. When you've copied all the messages you want, and are
certain you don't need to go back there, delete the account from
Tools/Accounts.
