Moving Entourage Files & Folders to Another Computer

P

PeeWee

Does anyone know how to move mail folders from one MAC to another??

I do it by copying the entire user identity folder. You will find it in:

User/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/

If you use Entourage X it's called Office Identities or so.
(I translate these names approximately from my German System)

Inside this you will find a folder with the same name as your Entourage
Identity containing your mail database and some other files.

On the "other" Mac open Entourage, create a new identity with exactly the
same name as on your "one" Mac. Quit Entourage and replace at the same
location this newly created identity folder with the one containing your
mail data from the "one" Mac. Start Entourage again.

Make shure that you run the same Entourage version on both Macs, else it
will not work well or not at all.

Good Luck

Yikes! Same problem, but worse. I hope you can help.

My old identity was in Jaguar, and it is lost forever, becuase I
updated to Panther with a clean install. I saved the old "Microsoft
User Data" folder, but only that. The size of the files indicates that
it's the real thing (if not corrupted!) but Entourage doesn't like
these files. I think, reading your post above, that I have got the
Main Identity name wrong.

First, is there any way to find this identity name by opening the old
database in a text viewer?

My other identity was made in the same version of Entourage X. It was
the only identity.

I copied the files as directed, checked permissions, etc. which are
ok. But Entourage will not start with these files in the Main Identity
folder. It says "This identity cannot be opened with this version of
Entourage". It's the same version, of course, cause I only have this
version. But obviously I have the identity name wrong.

Tried this, but didn't see it.

The name should be the same as the name of the folder in the main identity
folder. Since you saved the whole old "Microsoft User Data" folder from your
old installation, the name will still be the right one. And that's the one
to use to create a new identity.

Did you try to Import via the file menu?

Howard: it's Entourage v.X

PeeWee: yes, I've tried importing and I've tried "Switch Identities":
I've tried putting the old identity folder (with its databases within)
in the Office X Identities folder; at first it offers the old identity
as a switchable option, but In all cases Entourage says "This identity
cannot be opened with this version of Entourage".

Thanks and sorry I took so long getting back.
