Moving Microsoft User Data out of Documents folder

Does anyone know if I can move the Microsoft User data folder out of the Documents folder? For instance, can I move it of of the Documents folder and make it on the same level as the Documents folder?

The main reason why I want to do this is that I am using Foldershare to synch my Documents folder, and I don't want it to synch the Microsoft User data folder (which is in there). The only way to exclude it is to move it out of the Docs folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can use an alias or a symlink. Entourage looks for your Identity in the
Documents folder and there is no way to change that.

OK. Just to be sure I understand, if I move my Main Identity out of the Documents folder, create an alias of it and place THAT in the Documents folder, then Entourage should work fine?

BTW, what is a "symlink" (couldn't find anything in Help about that).

Yes.

I have a Glossary of useful terms for Entourage and the OS. Check it out the
next time you have a question about a term. Another good place to check is
Wikipedia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki>

Symbolic links are simply files that point back to a file located at a path
contained inside the link. Aliases are files created by the Mac OS X Finder
using either the "Make Alias" command, or by holding down Command and Option
while dragging a file.

Symbolic links have a few advantages over aliases. For one, they don't break
if you create a symbolic link to a file and then replace the file with a
file by the same name. Also, every Unix application can resolve symbolic
links; some Unix applications have trouble resolving aliases. File servers
in particular usually can't resolve aliases, but they have no problems
resolving symbolic links. Symbolic links do not track a file if the file is
moved from its original path, so moving a file will break any symbolic links
pointing to it.

Some Entourage users want to move the Microsoft User Data folder from it's
default location in the User's Document folder. You can use an alias or a
symbolic link. You can use this method with an external thumb-drive. You
must quit the Microsoft Database daemon in order to eject the drive.
Freeware to create a symbolic link: SymbolicLinker.

I have my MUD on an external drive since forever (at least since Office for X, but IIRC even before that).

I just have an alias to the MUD (on the external disk) in the documents folder. That worked fine in all the years. (I did it, because I work on several machines an carry my data on an external drive with me).

Now when I switched to 2008 Microsoft Database Daemon hung somwhere in _FSVolumeMount (not sure why it did, because the disc was online), but after a couple of tries it seems to work fine.

Alias should work as well.

BTW. Is anybody of the MS-folks interested in the samples of the Entourage hang?

If yes - please drop me a note and tell me where to send it.
