mp2 movie doesn't play on new Sony Viao

I worked with my client to see what happens.
He is re inserting the movies just to be sure the link is good, but still
not playing.
It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
We tried to click and drag the movie in to make sure that it plays with
Windows Media Player. After he did this we tried to preview the slideshow
to see if it would play and it only put in the file name of the file...

What could Sony have here, that doesn't work?

Thx this is really deep, and should cover any items we haven't tested
already.

Ok, maybe this:

Have him download and install the latest DirectX drivers
and the latest Windows Media Player.

Also, when inserting the movie, try Insert, Object, Create
from File.
