MS Acct Pro 2007 You need to make this program more flexible.

J

JEM

This program is too restrictive. There needs to be ways to make chages to
payments without having to VOID every time you make an error. If a payment
has not been issued than you should be able to make changes to it, which I
have not been able to do.

There should also be a step by step demo of have to enter in data so you do
not need to learn from scrach if you accounting skills are not strong.
Quickbooks has a very nice training demo that goes through the whole program.

This program has a long way to go.

That's not how accounting works. A cheque may be drawn, for example, but not
sent in the post. However, the accounts MUST show that that payment has
"technically" been made, even if the cheque has not physically left the
premises. If you wish to change a payment then you should cancel it and
issue another. This keeps the audit trail easy to see. If you start changing
numbers then the audit trail becomes more and more murky.

'How it works' depends on the country you operate in and as to whether a
full audit trail of all entries is required, which in the UK is only a
requirement for businesses of a certain size/type.
I use a fully accredited software package in which making changes to entries
is simplicity itself - its still based on double entry

Would that be Sage perhaps?

Your kidding :)
I have used Sage, some versions ago & found it unnecessarily complicated.
For the Small Business, unless they have read the manual extensively, when
it comes to Journal entries, to correct the errors, one is likely to find an
even bigger mess afterwards
Also Looked at QuickBooks - the last version I examined had a fundamental
problem with its Vat handling, which would lead to reporting errors.
I seem to recollect the same was true for MYOB.
I use Vt http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/tranplus/index.htm a fully functioning
trial is available
