"MS Office 2004 cannot start because MS Office is already in use"

I just installed MS Office 2004 on my new MacBook Pro and got this error
message. Any suggestions what the problem is? I do know that it came with
MS Office trial, which I uninstalled since I already have the retail
version.

This messages means that there's another computer on your network which
already uses the same Office 2004 license which you are trying to use. The
Microsoft Office 2004 Standard license allows you to install a version on
both a laptop and a desktop computer, provided that you only run one version
at the same time. The reason for this message is that the Office
applications will perform a network check to see if there is another
computer using the same license, and if that is the case, will prevent it
from launching Office.
When you say that you uninstalled the trial version, does that mean that you
used the installer provided by Microsoft, the "Remove Office" tool? If not,
then you'd better run that now to avoid problems in the future. You might
need to reinstall Office afterwards, though.

Thanks! Got it. It might be useful if the message actually read "MS office
is already in use on this network."

I know. It's simple and easy to understand. Silly me.
