Hi I would like to purchase a BibLe for MS Project, as i have found the
microsoft complimentatry publication and numerous "help" books inadequate...
Does any body know about a good comprehensive publication out there???
thanks
There are tons of them out there, as the list cited above proves.
Finding a "good" one is another issue entirely. I consider the process
of linking the tasks a critical part of doing a meaningful schedule.
If the links between tasks are not correct, there will be false and/or
missing dependencies and an erroneous schedule. Whenever I review a
book, one of the key sections I look at is the section on linking.
Most of the books offer misleading or just plain wrong advice on this
subject. Like telling the user to just link everything from the top of
the schedule to the bottom!
The other thing I look for is a warning to turn off the "Autolink
inserted or moved tasks" option, which I consider to be crucial to
avoid false links in your schedule. This is rare in these books.
I certainly haven't looked at them all, but I do try to check it out
when I see a new one on the store shelf. So far, the one I've found
that seems consistent with what I know about scheduling is Pyron's
"Using MS Project" series by Que Publishing. He does warn about the
Autolink feature and he does mention, if not stress, the best,
quickest way to get CORRECT linking. There may be others who have done
the same or even better than I just haven't seen.
Hope this helps in your world.
