How to I create a resource group. I would like to have a resource appear in
multiple groups.

Please advise if this is possible.

Read in "Help" (or in books on Microsoft Project) about "resource
sharing". The functionality available on the Tools/Resource Sharing menu.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I, too, was looking to share resources. I looked in Acces HELP and found
descriptions of buttons and dialog boxes and choices that were not on my
Share Resources dialog window. Any other leads?

Launch Microsoft Project's Help file, and in the Answer wizard type "how
to share resources" for a a number of articles which will tell you
exactly what to do. The article "Share Resources Dialog Box" gives
details and shows how to use the ? in the dialog box for getting more
information about the fields in a dialog box (a standard Windows feature).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Been there, done that. Used the "?" help. The HELP and "?" refer to a
dialog box "Open Resource Pool ...". I don't see that when I select
Tools/Resources/Share Resources. (What HELP left out was that I first have
to actually connect a "sharing" project to a resource pool, then close them
both, then try to open the "sharing" project without having first opened the
resource pool. This isn't particularly intuitive, is it?)

For example, HELP mentions "...Then, you connect the normal project file to
the resource pool file, and ...", but provides no indicate of how to
"connect". I was under the impression that the resource pool file was to
remain empty, just holding resources.

On the plus side, I've noticed that I have to actually open the resource
pool file before I can indicate that I want to share its resources. Will
this also be true every time anyone opens any of the "subprojects" that will
need to share the resources in the pool? Or is this a one-time only
connection issue?

HELP isn't as fully helpful as I'd like to see. ?Got any suggestions for
decent operator's manuals? I'm comfortable with PM concepts, so I really
need ideas on how to use the tool to do things I can already do w/ paper &
pencil.

Thanks again!

Jeff,

What version of Project you are using. I am explaining my version
(Project 2002) and my recollection is that it was basically the same
with my prior version (Project 98). I have never seen Project 2000, and
only a quick glance at Project 2003.

I find Project's Help extremely comprehensive, complete, and most
everything I need to find. It's not the best for "learning" how to use
Project. However the Project Map and Project Tutorial look pretty good.
For more, take a course or read a book. See the FAQ's for suggestions
on books (No. 47) http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm.

The use of the term "normal project file" troubles me. That's not
nomenclature that I recognise. What is the title of the Help article in
which this wording is provided? When you select Menu: Tools/Resource
Sharing/Share Resources, what do you see? I see the dialog box
entitled: "share resourse" and you can pick from "use own resources" or
"use resources from" with a pull-down list box.

In both 98 and 2002, I find the process intutive. Sorry that you don't.

Yes, the normal practices is for the resource pool to be "task-less" and
only hold resources.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Thanks for the support, Rob.

Project 2000.

I suppose I just need more time getting acquainted...
