MS Project's future?

Andrew F.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what Microsoft's plans are for Project in the future? From
what I understand, the latest version of Project is 2003 and I haven't seen
anything yet about a newer version coming out. Also, I was looking to
attend training and get Microsoft's certification for Project, but have
noticed that no certification seems to be available anymore via a class. I'
m assuming the MVP certification is still available but to my understanding
that isn't available via a training course. Anyway, I'm just curious if
Microsoft intends to continue on with Project or if they're going to
introduce a different line of software to replace it. Any insight you have
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

The best I can tell you is that Microsoft Project is not going away any time
soon. In fact, I will be in Seattle next week for the Project Conference in
which Microsoft will unveil its plans for the next version of the software,
referred to a Project 12.

Alas, there are no certifications available for the Microsoft Project
desktop application. The MVP that you mention is not a certification; it is
an honorary title bestowed by Microsoft on those who show exceptional
knowledge of the software and who also volunteer their knowledge freely
through forums such as the newsgroups, the MPA, etc. Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew,

You might want to take a look at Deieter Zirkler's Blog. Not sure how
often/if it will keep getting updated, but there is some good reading to get
you up to speed. Unfortunately, people in the beta are also under NDA or
we'd be happy to fill you in. Of course, if you have a need for the beta,
you could always contact your local MS office and see if you can get in on
the beta.

For certification you could try IIL (iil.com) as they run a series of
training courses in MS Project, and project Server
