MS Publisher Avery CD insert designs - how do I edit them?

ok, shot in the dark here...

i'm using MS Publisher and want to create some CD inserts. I download a
template from the internet although i want to adjust it slightly. The
template contains some dotted guide-lines (which don't get printed) which
show the layout of the CD inserts (same applies for templates of CD labels).
These dotted lines are not 'mormal' guidelines and they don't exist on the
master-page. They are not selectable and they don't print. They're not
printer's marks (cut-marks). I have no idea how to remove/edit these 'layout
lines'. I can't find anything in "page setup" or print settings etc that
might indicate what these lines are or how to modify them.

Can anyone help? Someone must have added these lines to the template somehow!

Hi,

thanks for the reply - I have indeed, and that's just the problem! All (most
of) the templates are US templates.. i'm looking for Avery C32250 (CD
inserts) and L6043 (CD labels) but couldn't find any. As a result, I wanted
to base my template on one of the US designs (as they're pretty close), and
then edit it a bit to get the guidelines in the right place. However, the
guidelines on the downloaded templates are 'strange' in that they can't be
edited, selected or modified etc etc .. hence my initial question.

I would be very interested in finding out exactly 'what' these guidelines
are and how they can be edited/created.

kind regards

Dom

Hi,

thanks again for the reply. I know the labels & templates exist and are
supported by other products such as those you provide links to. I need in
this case to use MS Publisher, for which I am not able to find any suitable
templates (only the US versions, not the A4 versions).

For this reason, I asked my original question - is it possible to edit the
'guidelines' on the Publisher templates that i *am* able to download, in
order to create the templates I actually need? The guidelines don't appear to
be selectable or editable...etc.. so I have no idea how they are created.

I'm not looking for a workaround - i am looking for an answer to my original
question, if at all possible :)

No doubt the guidelines are hard wired, select all on the page, open a new
instance of Publisher and paste. The guidelines should be gone. Did you check
the Master page to see if the guidelines are setup there?

Hi mary,

thanks for the reply- if I do what you suggest, the guidelines will indeed
be gone - but that's not what I want at all! I just want to edit them, but as
I said, they're not on the master slide, or selectable, so i wanted to find
out "what" these lines are and where they came from - when you say they could
be "hard-wired", what do you mean? They must have been put there by someone -
i can't imagine all these templates have been created by people with access
to the source code/interfaces of Publisher. If there's a way to create them,
there must be a way to edit them. Thats' all I wish to find out :)

cheers

I suspect the folks that created the templates on the Office web site do have
access to the code, otherwise the objects could be selected and changed. If you
click "Boundaries and Guides" in the view menu, you will see the guidelines. You
can change the size of the page setup rather than trying to adjust the
pre-created template. Tools, options, select centimetres, in page setup change
to A4, click change copies per sheet, adjust the margins and gaps.
