MS Word 97 - locks up when copying

I have a machine with Win98se, and MS Word 97 sr2. When copying clipart or
text boxes, Word Stops responding. I can CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the job, but
that doesn't solve the problem. I've reinstalled Windows, reinstalled
office, and added additional memory after neither of the first actions
changed anything. Anyone have any ideas?
