MSG File on Disk opens as attachment instead of as Mail

A bunch of emails were saved as MSG files (Dunno why no one bothered to save
the PST) to be shared across.

In Outlook 2007, when I try to open the aforesaid MSG file (by
double-clicking them), it opens as an 'attachment in a blank mail message'
instead of opening the actual mail item!

Any idea how to get them to open up correctly as a mail item and not go into
a new mail as an attachment?

Few Pointers:
- I don't have Google Desktop Installed
- Same MSG files open file (as mail items) in another PC running Outlook 2007
- If I drag the MSG item into Outlook's Inbox, it opens fine from there.

How can I ensure that the raw MSG file when clicked upon, opens as a usual
Outlook mail item?

Thanks in advance for your help

It depends on the file association that you made in Windows.
Which version of Windows are you using?
In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you should be able to restore the file
association via Start-> Default Programs
In Windows XP you should be able to do this via Control Panel-> Folder
Options-> tab File Types

If MSG files on your computer aren’t displayed as email messages but rather as attachments, it indicates that an appropriate tool doesn’t exist on your computer to open these types of files. The easiest way to resolve this issue is through the use of an MSG converter. MSG Converter is my suggestion for this task, as it allows the ability to view complete e-mails (including subject, body, sender, and any associated attachments) and also convert to readable formats such as PST and EML. By using GainTools MSG Converter, you are no longer dependent on Outlook for viewing your e-mail messages and can do so utilizing a tool that is simple to use and operates in an effective manner, whether or not Outlook is installed on your Computer.
